2008 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG Convertible

The SL55 is near the top of the line for the Mercedes SL-Class cars.  The only model above this is the SL65 which has a V12 instead of a V8.   It has been modified by the AMG division of Mercedes-Benz to provide the highest level of performance.  AMG is Mercedes division that creates high performance versions of almost all their vehicles.

The SL55 AMG that I looked at today was Iridium Silver with Black interior.  It had the AMG Performance Package option which has a top speed of 186 mph.  This was a $14,070 option when the car was new and is very rarely seen on this model.  The other options for this car are the Premium 1 package, Parktronic, Voice Control, Panorama Roof and Electronic Trunk Closer.

The SL-Class has always been one of my favorite Mercedes models.  It is a classic design that looks as good with the top down or up. It is definitely one of the nicest designed hard top convertibles on the market.  The top folds away neatly into the truck.  If you plan on putting the top down you will not be able to put anything in the trunk.  There is not much to dislike about this car.  The controls are well placed and easy to operate by touch.  My one main complaint is the controls for the climate control which are not as intuitive as other cars.  I am also  not crazy about the glass panorama roof if you live in a warm climate since it is basically a big window on the top of the car with a shade that does not really block out the sun.
